My cousin Lindsey is expecting!

She is going to be the best mom ever! She is due in the beginning of March. I just have to share this with everyone because she is the best...

Little Piggies-

Tonight...

After a crazy night at school- vocal performance class and then Ballroom with Tim and Matt and Joe (three hours of dancing in a row)- I headed up to my wonderful Edward (yes, that is what Dan deemed my little BMW). I love the name by the way! Just fits so perfectly...

Anyway, I got to Edward and pushed the button to unlock it. He didn’t beep twice as usual but played a cute four beep melody instead. I smiled, surprised, and said, "I know, I know. I missed you too."

As I got in my car, I noticed this guy walking in front of my car just cracking up. Embarrassed, I realized he had just heard my joyous reunion with my car!

I totally just made his night!

 

Another good story from last week...

I was at the BYU Salt Lake Center for class last Wednesday. My elevator stopped on the third floor as I was headed to the fourth floor. It opened and no one got out, but I did happen to notice the elevator across the foyer and the guys attempting to get in it.

The door was closing and they weren’t in yet. They were trying to stick whatever limb they could to get the door to open back up (like normal elevators usually do). Each limb these two guys tried to stick in didn’t stop the door from inching slowly closed. It looked like the Hokey Pokey smoosh style. Two guys, really close together, sticking random things in the doorway? Who couldn’t crack up?! They turned to see our door closing and me just cracking up as the door closed! I just couldn’t help but laugh because they totally could have gotten on our elevator... and I kind of liked watching them fail. Is that terribly bad of me? If they would have succeeded, it wouldn’t have been funny.

 

Maybe someday these stories will win me money, but I hope that they just make you laugh... have a good night!

All Girl

Abi LOVES everything girl! Headbands, dresses, shoes, purses... It has been so much fun dressing up with her!

Abi making sure we say prayers on our dinner... she can also say "Jesus" now which is just so cute!

This just happens to be what she is doing as I write!

My family has a lot of work ahead of them. It will take at least a month to decided the route to take (whether to rebuild or not and get insurance stuff figured out). The reality is starting to set in and a lot of sorrow has filled our family (especially my dad). We are so grateful for the support that we have had from family and friends. My parent’s definitely need it. I am sure they have a lot more downs to come before some things start looking up, but it is amazing how well they have handled things so far. It has sure made us grateful for the Gospel. So much comfort from blessings, prayers, and the members of my parent’s ward have already helped so much.

From what I know (and I hope my parents don’t mind me saying this) I am pretty sure they need the emotional support over the physical help. Phone calls, emails, and thought and prayers are going to mean more to them than anything else. You can email my parents at loonemare@gmail.com if you are so inclined.

Papa Murphy’s Fire

Saturday night my parent’s business burnt down. When my mom called to tell me, I seriously thought she was joking! It has been unrealistic but definitely real.

Thankfully everyone is okay and we have already seen so many miracles and tender mercies from the Lord. I will continue to post some updates as I get them.

Here are some things my mom wrote last night and then the photos to follow...

We had an employee meeting here tonight.  They all want Jerry to rebuild.
The rest of the photos are of the fire.  This morning around 4 as we
lay in bed wide awake.  Jerry voiced his concern about all his
employees being out of a job and he was worrying about what they were
going to do.  He talked about not even being able to add up their time
cards to make sure they got paid the right amount.  When he went over
to the store this afternoon, he was able to go in the back door of the
business, and there on the wall were all the time cards. Untouched.
Unburned with hardly any water damage.  Just a beginning of the many
tender mercies the Lord has in store for us.
Tonight about 20 members from our ward came and helped us get into the
safe to get the money out.  Jerry said that he liked doing that best.
They were working on getting into his office and couldn't get the door
opened because debris had fallen in front of it.  So they ended up
breaking a hole in the bathroom wall and getting into his office that
way.  The fire had not burned anything in his office.  Another tender
mercy.  There was plenty of smoke damage and water damage.  He
salvaged the computer, although it was dripping with water.  We are
hoping to restore the hard drive.  We were able to get out all our
paperwork and checkbook w/statements and the money Jerry had stashed
in there on Friday.  The 2 liter  bottles of soda in the lobby cooler
were still in tact.  Tomorrow Jerry is going back over to salvage
more.  We are hoping to save some of the cooking equipment:
colanders, cookie sheets, etc. and the prep table.
Well, we are getting tired and need to get some rest.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.  Keep them coming.....I have
a feeling we are going to need them. :-)

Police Beat

I sure love our school newspaper! Seriously! I have missed the lighter reads when it comes to the news. Sometimes when I read the paper I feel less educated afterwards, but I am always learning such crazy facts (and I enjoy editing the paper with a red pen… shouldn’t college kids know how to write or at least proofread?). One of my favorite columns is the Police Beat. Well, here is the best from over the summer...

While crime is taken seriously on campus, students find joy in reading what crazy things happen on a daily basis right under their very own noses.

Suspicious Activity

May 21: A female transient was found eating red juniper berries on the east side of the Benson Building. She told officers she was looking for a place to live. They advised her not to eat the berries off the bushes.

July 3: Officers responded to a suspicious person at the Bookstore upset about the deodorant selection. The person picked up a stick of deodorant, kicked it across the floor, then paid for the deodorant and left.

June 5: An adult male dressed in black was reported running through the quad and hiding behind dumpsters at Wymount Terrace. The man ran through the quad, dropped to his belly and army-crawled, then got back to his feet and continued running. He ran past a woman and said “Good morning” before jumping in a car and speeding off.

Property Damage

June 4: A moose was loose on campus so police called the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. Officials came and tranquilized the moose. However, before going down the moose damaged two vehicles in the parking lot across from the SAS Building.

Trespassing

May 31: A phone call came in reporting a male alum and a female student had been kissing in the grass near a Wymount Terrace complex, making the caller and his family feel uncomfortable. The officer arrived and asked them to leave.

Fire

June 25: A car caught on fire near the north entrance of the Tanner Building. Witnesses said the car started to smoke and then they heard the tire pop. The cause of the fire is unknown but the fire department said other Ford Explorers have caught fire in the past. The taillight of the car next to the Explorer was melted.

Theft

June 14: Two bikes were reported stolen on campus. The victims saw the stolen bikes in a photo on Facebook. The person in the photo was arrested because he had “control” of the bikes.

Firearms

June 16: Someone reported seeing a man in the stadium with a rifle. The police responded and found out it was a grounds employee sent to eliminate pigeons with a pellet gun. Officers stopped him. The man was not able to shoot any pigeons.

Drug arrest

June 3: An EFY counselor thought he could smell marijuana in Gates Hall around 11 p.m. He found three EFY participants smoking marijuana in the stairwell. Police said the juveniles will be charged.

Animal Problems

June 20: A stray cat fell into a mechanical well and couldn’t get out. Officers responded and rescued the cat.
July 4: An owl was found in the former president’s home. An officer communicated with the owl and it left.

Civil problem

July 20: A resident at Wymount Terrace called and reported that carpet layers did not clean up after themselves and worked late into the evening on his apartment. Police referred him to Housing Administration because no crime was committed

Criminal mischief

July 22: A report was made of someone driving on the grass at Helaman Halls. A description of the truck was given and an officer was dispatched. The officer stopped the truck and the driver said he did not remember if he drove on the grass. The driver then told the officer he could not lie and that he was guilty of driving on the grass. The driver was given a warning.

Burglary

July 27: Someone thought there was a burglary when they returned to their car and a window was broken out. Nothing appeared to be missing, so officers think the window may have exploded because of the heat.

Disorderly conduct

July 31: Someone was throwing water balloons off the third floor of Budge Hall at 1 a.m. No one was injured but police could not find the person doing it. Later, housing authorities found the person and told them to stop.

That has to be my favorite quote from the football game announcers yesterday... for those who didn’t see the game, shame on you! Anyway, besides a WONDERFUL football game that we won against OK, here are some highlights from our day (and week I guess)...

 

Abi LOVES my earrings and is always putting them on. I finally caught her on camera with them.

This week Abi has enjoyed throwing her dirty diapers down the stairs. I guess she got bored and needed something else to do with them. This is the second instance where she gifted it to me on my desk. The first... well, she decided to play dress ups with it. Nasty! I should have taken a photo right before it, but I was so grossed out and laughing that I took it off too soon.

Meet my new baby... FINALLY! After 5 years with an ancient lappy, I got a new one! She is gorgeous and was a steal. Now Dan won’t have to share his with me anymore :) I think he was tired of it!

What has happened with my old lappy.

Yesterday morning we went to the Autumn Classic Invitational at BYU where we watched Cross Country runners. Dan’s younger brother Ty was running so his family was there. Abi was such a good girl and LOVED sharing Grover and pushing the stroller all over the place. Thanks Grandma for playing with her!

I told Dan he should start running again :)

Abi LOVES to unload our wallets. I have to be careful to make sure that I get everything back too because she tends to take off with the most important cards... driver’s license, debit card, school ID.

Why I got these...

So Dan brought me home the most gorgeous flowers the other night... and why you ask? Because I just made this!!!

The Brigham Young University Ballroom Company!!! Never did I think that I would have this opportunity again. I am so blessed!
